Golden Corn Bread

1 C. yellow corn meal
1 C. flour
1/4 C. sugar
4 tsp. baking powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 egg
1 C. milk
1/4 C. shortening

Stir together cornmeal, flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt. Add shortening, egg, and milk. Blend with spoon; don't over beat. Bake in greased 8 inch square pan at 400 deg for 20 - 25 min.
